Online Ticket Sales printed on plain white paper?

Has anyone ever ordered tickets online and got printed out pieces of paper with a bar code on it?? I figured the traditional tickets with stub would show up. Is this the new way of getting tickets...a computer printed copy of a ticket with a bar code??? or am I just old and out of the loop? Has anyone gone to shows on tickets like these??
